The NSW Youth Ballet Company has been formed to give pre-professional ballet students opportunities to perform full length ballets in professional theatres. It is designed to mimic the atmosphere and challenge of a fast paced professional environment. Traditional choreography is key to these ballets and those students who participate will experience a company-like program from rehearsal through to performance. Students will attend an intensive program to prepare and rehearse a ballet with a full theatre performance at the conclusion of the intensive. Roles within the Company are allocated on merit alone. All students will have an equal opportunity to perform to their personal best and to have a real life experience in staging a full ballet.

The two week production schedule will include a daily ballet technique class, repertoire classes, rehearsals, costume fittings, working with sets and props and a final day of a stage dress rehearsal and a final performance that is open to the public.

The total cost for participation in the production, including two weeks of classes, repertoire, licencing, costuming, sets, props, music and associated technology will be $1,199 per student. Students will be required to bring their own class and rehearsal attire and will be responsible for providing their own shoes and tights for the production.

About our January 2025 Production of “Sleeping Beauty”

The intensive training schedule will be from Monday to Friday from 6 – 17 January 2025. The middle weekend has been left for rest, relaxation and sightseeing. The dress rehearsal will be held on the morning of Saturday 18 January 2025 with the performance to be held that evening.

Rehearsals will be held in the world class facilities of the NSW International Ballet Academy, located in the north shore of Sydney. There is plenty of public transport to the area, both by train and bus, with detailed instructions to be provided to successful students.

Accommodation option information around the area will also be provided for students needing to travel. The space boasts six large studios, all with fully sprung floors and performance quality Tarkett. A full pilates/cross training room is available for all students to access during the intensive, along with safe spaces for children to relax and socialise in. A dedicated on-site café is open to all students and their parents and carers for the duration of the two week rehearsal period.

The performance will be held at The Glen Street Theatre in Belrose, a fully equipped performance theatre with all technical capabilities required to stage a professional ballet.

Child protection is key to the NSW Youth Ballet Company and all classes, rehearsals and performances will be fully supervised by persons who hold valid NSW Working with Children Checks.
